Lawrence Takes Best Ever GNC Finish at Hagerstown

Round six of the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Grand National Championship took place at a hot and steamy Hagerstown Half-Mile on July 7 and Canadian Doug Lawrence was on hand in full force.

After a hot and exciting race, Lawrence crossed the line in 6th place, solidifying his best ever GNC finish aboard his R&J Racing/ CVC Communications-backed Harley-Davidson.

According to Lawrence, “I rode around in sixth the whole race. I was sort of catching fifth and fourth a little past halfway. Those guys were searching for lines and I had committed to my line. I was just watching those guys, but I just couldn’t get them.”

Jared Mees won the 25-lap Grand National, while Jake Johnson was second and Jeffrey Carver third. Lawrence finished +8.657 behind the leaders with his sixth place finish.

Meanwhile, brand wars continue to heat up in the series. In the past, Grand National Half Miles and Miles were a sea of Harley-Davidson XR750s. At Hagerstown, the Expert field saw 18 riders in the main event, nine of which were on Harley-Davidson, seven on Kawasaki, one on Suzuki and one KTM.  The AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles main featured largely Hondas, while KTM took the win in the event.

AMA Pro Flat Track racing continues at the Sacramento Mile on July 28, 2012.
