ST-EUSTACHE, Que. – Simon Hamel led all the way to take the Bazazz Amateur Superbike win in round two of the series at Autodrome St-Eustache on Sunday.

The rider of the Pete’s Superbike / LAS Suspension / Michel Brossard BMW S1000RR was never challenged through the 16-lap race and finished 7.683 secs. ahead of the 613 Motorsports / Jim Keay Ford Lincoln Suzuki GSX-R1000 ridden by Stephan Houle. Points leader Trevor Daley completed the podium on his One Speed / Riders Choice Suzuki GSX-R1000.

“It was very hard work the first few laps but I didn’t have any problems,” said Hamel, who stretched his margin by almost a second a lap in the first half of the race. “I’m a little surprised but we worked hard on the bike and all weekend we were dropping our times.”

The win was the first national victory for the Rosemere, Que. racer, who had also qualified on pole. With the triumph he won the $1000 Dua Motorsport Contingency Payback as well as a prize package from national series sponsor Mopar.

While Hamel took off at the front of the field a wild battle for second held the crowd’s attention throughout the race. Daley led it most of the way but was passed by Houle three laps from the end. Right behind them came Amateur Sport Bike race winner Philippe Masse, who had climbed from eighth early in the race on the Racingphil.com / Pete’s Superbike Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Daley now leads Hamel by three points in the Amateur Superbike standings, 93-90, heading to round three at Atlantic Motorsport Park in two weeks.

Luke Bauer finished fifth on his Honda CBR1000RR and Tim Robinson took sixth aboard the Robinson Racing / Gym-Max BMW S1000RR. Robinson had qualified second and was part of the scrap behind Hamel for most of the race before a big moment exiting the final turn on lap 12 dropped him out of contention. He crossed the line just ahead of the Ricky Bobby Racing Suzuki GSX-R600 of Jean-Francois Aubin and Austin Shaw-O’Leary on the GoLo Racing / Dua Motorsport Honda CBR600RR.

Qualifying for the Amateur Superbike class was held Sunday morning following a serious crash involving Daniel Moffet early in Saturday afternoon’s session. The St-Marthe Sur Le Lac, Que. rider had apparently lost control of his Honda CBR600RR on the front straight and crashed just beyond the pit exit.

On Sunday Frontline CSBK staff reported that Moffet had broken five vertebrae in the accident, but was expected to make a full recovery. He had been transferred from the St-Eustache hospital to Sacre Coeur Hospital in Montreal.
