Motorcycle Training Returns to Sheridan College...sort of

Motorcycle rider training is once again being run on the parking lots at Sheridan College's Oakville campus after an 18 month absence," says Chief Instructor Rob Copeland. The grand opening launch was the weekend of May 9/10.

This Canada Safety Council Motorcycle Training program is now being offered through the not-for-profit Motorcycle Training Organization of Halton/Peel (MTOhp). MTOhp was formed in 2013 in response to Sheridan's discontinuation of their motorcycle rider training program after a long 35 year history.
“We felt there was still a need for this type of training for the residents of Halton and Peel regions," said Copeland. "So a group of former instructors banded together, formed MTOhp and bought all of the motorcycle assets from Sheridan College. We started off last year with the 'on-bike' training happening in the parking lots at the Region of Peel Building at 7120 Hurontario St. in Mississauga.

"This year we have been fortunate to make arrangements to also rent parking lot space at Sheridan's Trafalgar campus. This will allow us to offer the same training course to the residents of Halton/Peel previously offered by Sheridan for over 35 years," said Copeland. The two day course offers full on-bike training on a variety of motorcycles all provided by MTOhp. Motorcycle licence examination and upgrading to M2 is included in every weekend course at the end of each Sunday. Helmets are also supplied if a student does not have their own. Courses available every weekend until the end of October. The classroom portion is offered every Thursday evening at Sheridan College's Trafalgar and Brampton campuses.
