Based on the Multistrada 1200 S Touring, the premium Grantourismo model boasts several upgrades that underlie its status as Ducati’s flagship touring motorcycle.
While side-luggage increases capacity from 58 to 73 litres and a 48 litre top-case is fitted as standard equipment on the new model, three weatherproof interior soft-bags provide easy cargo removal upon arrival. A Ducati Performance Comfort Seat further enhances long journey enjoyment for the rider, as does the backrest built into the top-case for the passenger. Also for the rider, an extra 20mm in the bar-risers provide a more upright riding position, improving posture during long distance travel and increasing ease-of-handling when the Granturismo is fully loaded, while specially extended screen ensures added wind-protection.
Further journey-derived components fitted as original equipment include new Pirelli Angel GT tires, engine protection bars in tubular steel and additional LED aluminum-cased spotlights. The new lights, which are operated by a dedicated switch on the left-hand handlebar, not only give the Granturismo enhanced visibility to other road-users, but also enhance peripheral illumination when traveling on unknown and poorly lit routes.
The Granturismo comes in touring grey with racing grey frame and black wheels, with luggage styled with a subtle black finish.
Perhaps the most significant change to the Multistrada line-up is the all-new innovative suspension system developed by Ducati. The ‘S’ versions of the Multistrada 1200 are now equipped with electronic 48mm Sachs front forks and rear single shock, both featuring the new Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) system. According to Ducati, the new technology features a semi-active suspension management that constantly re-adjusts damping to maintain optimum vehicle composure.
The DSS system uses a number of sensors situated both on the “sprung” and “unsprung” sides of the chassis to calculate the smoothest possible operation. Vertical accelerometers situated on the front lower triple-clamp and in the rear sub-frame deliver “sprung” data, while additional sensors on the front fork leg lower and rear swingarm - close to the wheel hubs - deliver “unsprung” data. DSS then uses an algorithm in its programming which considers an imaginary fixed reference point above the vehicle: “a hook in the sky”. The system then responds to the inputs of both the vehicle and wheel movements with instantaneous damping adjustments to help maintain a constant relationship between the Multistrada and the reference point, providing optimum vehicle equilibrium and a smoother ride.

Ducati bases its Mutlistrada collection on the “Four-Bikes-In-One” concept that is achieved by selecting from a choice of four pre-set modes programmed to instantly change the engine character and chassis set-up of the Multistrada 1200 - even while riding. The four modes (Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro) are made possible by combining a number of class-leading technologies.
Ride-by-Wire and Traction Control are also standard on all 2013 Multistrada models, including the Grantourismo.
