BOWMANVILLE, Ont. -- Newly-crowned Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike champion Philippe Masse scored his second straight win on the Kawasaki ZX-6R at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Sunday.

The St-Hyacinthe, Que. racer finished 16.211 secs. ahead of the Hornblower Racing / Blue Streak / ProPulsion Yamaha YZF-R6 of Sarnia, Ont.’s Will Hornblower, while Newcastle, Ont.’s Nuno Almeida claimed third aboard the Noodles Racing / GP Bikes / Eurocorsa Triumph 675.

Masse spent the race battling with the OneSpeed / Riders Choice / ProStar Motorsports Honda CBR600RR of Trevor Daley, who was making his first appearance in the Sport Bike series at CTMP. Daley led the first three laps of the 12-lap race before Masse was able to get by. Daley never let the Kawasaki rider get much breathing room, however, and stayed glued to his tail until the final turn of the race, when he lowsided and slid with his bike into the air fence. Undaunted, Daley remounted to salvage fifth spot.

“I was a bit faster in the last part of the track, so I knew I could regain the lead there if I ever lost it,” said Masse, who had won Saturday’s race to clinch the title. “I really wanted to go out with a win.”

As on Saturday, Hornblower had to work his way up from fifth on the grid to move into third by lap three. When he got there Masse and Daley had some breathing space. Nevertheless, the series runner-up finisher was named the Performance Under Gear Performer of the Race for his strong effort.

Almeida continued his strong late season form to grab his second podium spot in three races and secure third in the final standings.

“I’m delighted to be on the podium at this track,” said the 35-year-old Almeida. “This is a place with a lot of history. I came into the series this year to see if I was able to compete with these kids and I’m super-ecstatic with how it turned out.”

Zaid Saleemi took fourth on the Z1 Cycletech Suzuki GSX-R600 after battling with Almeida all race.
