BOWMANVILLE, Ont. – Top Canadian Amateur racing prospect Austin Shaw-O’Leary will not be competing in this weekend’s final round of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, but the Falmouth, N.S. reports steady progress in his recovery from a leg injury sustained at Atlantic Motorsport Park last month.

The 16-year-old rising star posted on Facebook that he visited his doctor on Wednesday and is now able to walk without the aid of crutches.

The DUA Motorsports / GoLo Racing-backed racer suffered a bad bruise to the base of his femur in a fall during Sunday morning warm-up at AMP, which caused his knee to swell up dramatically later that evening.

“The swelling has gone down 1cm in the last week and we're thinking it will take another three and a half weeks for it to go away,” wrote Shaw-O’Leary, who won both the Bazzaz Amateur Superbike and Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike events at AMP. “I now have some exercises that help to regain lost muscle. I'm really excited things are going so well and I can't wait to see if I can get back on a bike soon.”
