Friday morning, 20-year-old McCormick had a positive report following an x-ray to his injured neck, so “the kid” has set sail south to spectate at round six of the SBK series at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah this weekend. The Miller race program, featuring the next two races of the SBK series on the Memorial Day American Holiday Monday, will give McCormick his first chance to visit with members of his Liberty Racing Team Effenbert squad since his initial local hospital stay following the Assen incident.
Although seriously fit McCormick has been permitted to return to riding a stationary bicycle for training purposes, he must still wear a brace and is restricted in terms of other activities. No time frame is in place for his much-anticipated return to 2012 World Championship Superbike action aboard his Ducati 1098R Desmo twin racer.
Regularly scheduled doctor visits to determine McCormick’s ongoing progress will eventual reveal a working schedule. Typically a return to the track three months after an injury of this type would be considered strong progress.
