Opting to leave behind his flat track steel-shoe for a weekend, Lawrence will practice on Friday, June 24, qualify on Saturday afternoon, June 25 and race on Sunday, June 26.
Recently Lawrence competed in the Texas-based X-Games at the start of June for the second straight year, before returning to Canada to win two races at the Welland County Speedway national round on Saturday evening, June 11.
Lawrence is scheduled to ride a Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja in the Magneti Marelli Amateur Super Bike race, with backing from Parts Canada and Riedmann Management. Currently Kenny Riedmann is the reigning Pro Sport Bike national champion while also running up front in the Pro Superbike Feature category aboard a Kawasaki.
“I’m really looking forward to my first official, serious road race,” confirmed Lawrence when he announced his last minute Kawasaki deal for Autodrome St-Eustache. “I’ve been getting ready, as prepared as I can be, and I am under no illusions about what it will be like joining a busy class part way through the season. I’m up for the challenge!”
Lawrence will try the Kawasaki for the first time at a Rider’s Choice Track Day at Shannonville Motorsport Park on Thursday, June 23. He will then join friend and Pro racer/tuner Trevor Daley to make the relatively short trip to Quebec to set up for Friday practice at the national.
“I really have to thank Trevor Daley and his One Speed Chop Shop, Trevor has helped with my Flat Track program and I know he and the Riedmanns will be a big plus toward my road racing learning curve. I also want to thank Dunlop and their distributor, Pro 6, as well as Alpinestars leathers and HJC helmets.”
In the opening Magneti Marelli Amateur Superbike race of the CSBK Nationals at Shannonville May 29, the red flag-interrupted race was won by Jean-Marc Bilger of Montreal on a BMW S1000RR, second going to the Suzuki GSX-R1000 of Mathiew Tremblay of St-Anable, QC, while Chris Brent of Ottawa, ON, earned third aboard a Honda CBR600RR.
Long-time Flat Track star Lawrence made his first career road racing start at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park last August, taking part in an invitational race for identical Kawasaki Ninja 300s as part of the National weekend. Showing great speed in his first outing on pavement, Lawrence took the overall Canadian Kawasaki-backed series. Since then, Lawrence has taken part in a few road racing track days in both Canada and the U.S.A.
The best effort by Lawrence so far on the premier AMA Pro FT Tour in the United States was sixth overall at the famed Springfield Mile, his best career finish a fourth at the Hagerstown Half Mile.
