From June 14 to 16, Ride for Sight will celebrate 35 years of fundraising in support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness – Canada’s largest charitable funder of vision research into treatments and cures for blinding eye diseases. With the help of beloved Canadian rock band BIG SUGAR, Ride for Sight will welcome thousands of riders to enjoy demo rides, a stunt show, free camping and the thrilling annual motorcycle parade from Toronto to Orillia.

“Thirty-five years is an incredible milestone for Ride for Sight,” says event director, Debbie Dixon. “It has been an annual tradition for friends and families across Central Ontario for decades and we’re so glad BIG SUGAR will be taking the stage during Ride for Sight weekend to help support vision research,” says Dixon. “They’ve got a long list of hits that will definitely have everyone on their feet!”

“Ride for Sight has become one of the highlights of my family’s calendar,” says 18-year-old, Meghan Vanderyt. As a long-time Ride for Sight attendee, Vanderyt is not only one of the event’s top fundraisers, she is also affected by retinitis pigmentosa – a blinding eye disease that often starts during childhood. “My dad made it a point to get his motorcycle license just so he can ride in the parade and my mom recently got her motorcycle license so she can ride too!,” she says. “The riders have shown amazing support for me and other young people with blinding eye diseases, and the money they contribute really helps researchers find treatments and cures.” Since its inception, Ride for Sight has raised a staggering $19 million to help researchers work to understand, preserve and restore vision to some 1 million Canadians affected by vision loss.

Along with riders in Central Ontario, motorcyclists across the country are gearing up and fundraising to support sight-saving research. Motorcycle enthusiasts and thrill-seekers can join Ride for Sight festivities: Bible Hill, Nova Scotia (June 8); Orillia, Ontario (June 14-16); Gander, Newfoundland (June 21-23); Ponoka, Alberta (June 21-22); Elbow, Saskatchewan (June 22-23); Inuvik, Northwest Territories (June 23); and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (July 12-14).

This year, Central Ontario participants are asked to raise a minimum of $100. Riders who raise the minimum will be entered into a draw for a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Every additional $100 raised, earns riders another draw ballot. For more information, visit rideforsight.com or call 1.800.461.3331
