Rider Down Memorial Service in BC, May 5

As part of the provincially proclaimed “Motorcycle Awareness Month” in British Columbia, the B.C. Coalition of Motorcyclists (BCCOM) along with the Savio Unit of the Canadian Army Veteran Motorcycle Unit (CAV) has planned a new event to honour riders who have lost their lives while riding.  This event, The Rider Down Memorial Service, will be held Sunday May 5th at 11am at the Bonsor Cenotaph located on the corner of Nelson Ave. and Imperial St. in Burnaby, B.C.

The Rider Down Memorial Service will bring together a cross-section of riders and the families who have lost their loved ones through what is often a fatal mistake of an automobile driver. The Padre from the Moro CAV unit will be presiding over the ceremony and a proclamation from the government of B.C. will be read at the service proclaiming May as “Motorcycle Awareness Month”.

The motorcyclists of B.C. want to bring awareness to the general public that 66% of all accidents involving a car and a motorcycle are the car driver's fault. With motorcycling becoming more and more popular (over 250,000 motorcycle license holders in B.C.)event organizers hope that this event will garner public attention and perhaps save lives.
