FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - AUSTIN, TEXAS - APRIL 14, 2015 - This past weekend Ben Young made a splash at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in his MotoAmerica Supersport championship debut. The resident of Thornbury Ontario Canada piloted the RoadRace Factory prepared Yamaha YZFR6 to his first points of the 2015 season.
The 2015 MotoAmerica season debuted alongside the superstars of MotoGP at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas as three of the MotoAmerica championship classes served as the support races for the MotoGP weekend.
The start of the inaugural MotoAmerica Supersport race on Saturday was met with overcast skies, on and off sprinkles changing to drying conditions then concluding in a major downpour.
Young took to a dry track during the pre-race sighting lap however once the riders returned to take their spots on the grid the rain came once again.
Starting from 10th on the grid Young made consistent progress for the first 7 laps. David Anthony began to gap the RoadRace Factory pilot after Young made a few mistakes. He quickly regrouped and managed to pull the gap back to Anthony.
Ben Young: “As soon as I got on the back on Dave’s rear wheel the skies opened up with massive down pour.”
By the 9th lap Young had worked his way up to 7th place. With one lap remaining of the 12 lap feature the heavy rain had not only triggered off-track excursions for a few of the top runners but also near zero visibility for all of the Supersport riders.
Young would eventually make it past Anthony to grab 3rd however due to the extreme lack of visibility he had to dial it back to ensure he would finish the race with some solid points.
Young would cross the finish line in 4th earning 13 points for himself and the RoadRace Factory team in the 2015 MotoAmerica Supersport championship
Ben Young: “I really wanted to see my RoadRace Factory Yamaha R6 on the podium. Sadly I had vision problems during the heavy down pour but, we brought it home! Massive thanks to the whole RoadRace Factory team and every person involved, you all rock!”
The season preview show, which sets the stage for the 2015 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Series, is set to air on CBS Sports Network for the first time on Wednesday, April 15 at 8 p.m. (Eastern) with a second airing that night at 11:30 p.m. (Eastern).
The opening round of the series from Texas will air on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m. (Eastern) with replays on Wednesday, April 22 at 9:30 p.m. (Eastern) and on Saturday, April 25 at 10 a.m. (Eastern). Please check your local listings for more information.

Canadian racers Ben Young and Marcel Irnie both had strong showings at the inaugural MotoAmerica race, held in conjunction with the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas this past weekend in Austin, TX.
Young, riding the RoadRace Factory Yamaha YZF-R6 in the Supersport class, took home an impressive fourth place finish in the rain during Saturday's race. Young had earlier qualified 10th but made it count in the wet stuff on race day.
"Well I finished up a soaking wet fourth, was on third and sadly had vision problems with a heavy downpour, but we brought it home!" Young said on Facebook just after the race. "Massive thanks to the whole RoadRace Factory team and every person involved, you all rock!" Young will take his fourth place overall standing in Supersport to Road Atlanta this weekend for the second race on the MotoAmerica schedule.
Irnie, meanwhile, finished eighth in the second of two Superstock 1000 feaures after crashing out in Race 1 on his Irnie Racing/Team MobiBuff/World's Best Motorcycles BMW S1000RR.
"We survived race two, finishing 8th in Superstock 1000," Irnie posted on his Facebook page post-race. "With practice cancelled in the early morning we were unable to test Franz (the pet name of Irnie's S1000RR) following yesterday's rain crash. On the warmup laps I discovered we had a serious problem with power. The bike was down 15 hp I estimate, which hampered my corner exits and holding position on the long straights. I had to be a demon on the brakes to reclaim my running position almost every back straightaway. Hopefully we can find the problem before next weeks race in Atlanta, Georgia."
The power issue was later traced to a programming issue with the bike's ECU, putting it in what Irnie referred to as "limp mode" for the entirety of the race.
Both Young and Irnie will be back in action when the MotoAmerica series heads to Road Atlanta this coming weekend.
