AMRA Announces Checkered Flag Program for Kids

Written by  on Monday, 26 March 2012 22:09

A long time supporter of youth in motorcycle racing, and recognizing the financial challenges that prevent some kids from sharing the motorcycle experience, the Alberta Mini RoadRacing Association (AMRA) has designed a program to introduce young kids between the ages of 6-9 to the sport of motorcycle roadracing.   The "Checkered Flag" sponsorship program provides equipment for up to 3 young riders to kickstart their dream of getting on the track and into the sport of road racing. The successful applicants will be loaned protective gear, from head to toe. As well, a suitably sized motorcycle will be provided to train on and eventually race. Training and instruction will be provided by an AMRA representative. The gear and equipment will remain the property of the AMRA for future families to benefit from.

This program is for young riders, ages 6-9, who have a desire to get into the sport of motorcycle road racing, but whose parents may not have the financial resources necessary for the equipment and trackfees. This program is not for children whose parents have the financial means to purchase equipment and gear. If you drive a Porsche, this is not for you!

The ideal candidate is a boy or girl:

• Between the ages of 6 and 9 years of age as of their birthday in 2012. • Who is physically able to work the standard controls of a motorcycle. • With at least a moderate physical fitness level and be able to lift 30lbs.

The candidates will be chosen by the AMRA committee and assigned the gear and motorcycle for the 2012 AMRA events within Calgary. While the sponsorship is intended for the entire season, the program will be evaluated on an event by event basis and the AMRA reserves the right to suspend the sponsorship.

The Alberta Mini Road Racing Association is where a number of talented young riders got their start, including World Superbike contender Brett McCormick.
