Max Mercier, the son of Canadian hall of famer Michel Mercier, died in 2005 at the age of 17 from a crash involving accidental brake lever contact at Shannonville. This tragedy led Michel’s friend Stephane Dion to create the Dion Device Brake Lever Guard, a Canadian product which is now widely used by racers around the world and is the official brake lever guard of the AMA.
200 limited edition Dion Devices will be produced and made available at the Shannonville race. Each will be branded Max Guard instead of Dion Device, will have Max’s number 11 on the carbon deflector and come with a beautiful portrait of Max.
“Our goal is to get these brake lever guards on as many riders as possible,” said Dion. “We want to make our sport safer and we need everyone’s help.”
